Welcome to FareWeave. We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application, which helps you split expenses, track shared costs, and settle up with friends, roommates, and groups.
Please read this policy carefully. By using FareWeave, you agree to the practices described here. We may update this policy from time to time; if we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the "Last Updated" date above and, where required, through in-app or email notice.
Account information: FareWeave does not use passwords. When you sign up, we collect the name and email address provided by your Google or Apple account via "Sign in with Google" or "Sign in with Apple," or we verify your mobile number using an SMS one-time password (OTP).
Contacts (optional): If you choose to add friends via your phone or email contacts, we access the contact list on your device only with your permission, to help you find and invite people you already know.
Transaction data: Details of expenses you create, split, or settle — including amounts, currencies, dates, categories, group names, group members, and notes or comments you add.
Group & social data: Information about the groups you create or join, and your interactions with other members (e.g., comments, reminders, activity history).
Location data: Approximate location inferred from your precise GPS data only if you expressly grant permission (e.g., for currency defaults or nearby-group suggestions). You can withdraw this permission at any time from your device settings.
Communications: Messages, feedback, or attachments you send us via email.
We do not use your transaction data to sell you third-party ads based on the specific contents of your personal expenses.
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in the following circumstances:
Other users: When you join a shared expense group, your display name and relevant transaction details (amounts, descriptions, who owes whom) are visible to other members of that group. Your Google/Apple account details and mobile number verification are never shared with other users.
Service providers: We work with trusted third-party vendors — cloud hosting providers, analytics tools, and email/SMS providers — who process data only to perform services on our behalf and are contractually bound to confidentiality and data protection obligations.
We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where we are legally required to retain it under applicable law. Because FareWeave does not process or store payment transactions itself, we do not retain financial/payment records beyond the expense and settlement entries you create within the app.
Transaction records tied to shared expenses involving other active users may be retained in anonymized or aggregated form (e.g., showing "a former group member" rather than your name) to preserve the accuracy of other users' balances and financial histories.
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
Residents of the EEA/UK, California, and other jurisdictions with data protection laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA/CPRA) may have additional rights specific to their region. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 10; we will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
FareWeave integrates with third-party UPI payment apps (e.g., Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM) solely to redirect you to complete a settlement you initiate. We do not process, control, or have visibility into what happens once you are redirected — that transaction is governed entirely by the third-party app's own privacy policy and terms. FareWeave may also contain links to other third-party websites or services (e.g., calendar or messaging apps you choose to connect). We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of any third party. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any third-party service you interact with through the Service.
FareWeave is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EEA/UK). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children below this age. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child, please contact us immediately and we will take steps to delete it promptly.
